Cassandra’s Printmaking Practice
Stems from her passion and desire to rekindle and harvest one’s memories of growing up on the Saskatchewan Prairies. This enormous passion for wanting to learn and understand what life was like growing up on the Prairies resulted from having weekly tea parties with her grandparents. During these tea parties, Cassandra was fascinated by all the binders her grandparents had that were full of family ancestry and photographs. Seeing the cheerful expressions her grandparents had as they retold and relived their own stories, became a turning point in Cassandra’s printmaking practice. Since this turning point, Cassandra has made it her goal within her artwork to create prints that have bold and linear visual experiences that rekindle memories with her viewers. To achieve this, Cassandra continues to create prints inspired by her grandparents’ lived experiences on the Prairies. Additionally, Cassandra actively immerses herself in learning the agricultural history the Saskatchewan Prairies have to offer.
